Boston Music Awards reveal 2011 nominations

Organizers for the Boston Music Awards have revealed this years nominees. Hip-Hop favorite Slaine dominated with five nominations including top prizes Artist of the Year and Album/EP of the Year for A World With No Skies 2.0. Rockers Dropkick Murphys followed with three nominations as did Mean Creek and Moufy. Now in its 24th year, the BMAs will take place at the Liberty Hotel in Boston on Sunday, November 22.
Joining Slaine in the Artist of the Year category are David Wax Museum, Dropkick Murphys, Lady Lamb the Beekeeper and Mean Creek. For Album/EP of the Year, hell face off against Reks (R.E.K.S.), Mean Creek (Hemophiliac), Freezepop (Imaginary Friends) and Roy Sludge (Too Drunk To Truck).
DOM, who last year earned five nominations and walked away with one trophy for Song of the Year, earned two nominations this year. Also up for two awards are David Wax Museum, Lady Lamb the Beekeeper, Reks, Freezepop, Karmin, Bad Rabbits, Viva Viva, Gentlemen Hall and Big Digits.
The complete list of nominees for each category is available below. Recipients for Humanitarian of the Year and Unsung Hero will be announced at a later date.
To be eligible for a Boston Music Award, a musician or producer must have strong ties to New England. The time frame for consideration for this years awards are November 1, 2010 to October 31, 2011.
Fans can vote through the BMAs official website at . Voting more than once is allowed but not encouraged. The Boston Music Awards Voting Academy accounts for two thirds of the final votes while the public accounts for the remaining one third. Voting closes at midnight on Wednesday, November 9.
Once again, this years Boston Music Awards promises to be a big party and showcase for the local music scene with over a dozen acts scheduled to perform sets across multiple rooms located within the Liberty Hotel. Performing at the BMA’s this year will be Moufy, Shea Rose, Viva Viva, Bloco AfroBrazil, Roy Sludge, Freezepop, Razormaze, Roomful of Blues, Stereo Telescope, Emperor Nortons Stationary Marching Band, The Wandas, Dead Cats Dead Rats, Casey Desmond, MMOSS and Gentlemen Hall with more to be added.
Tickets for the 2011 Boston Music Awards are now on sale through BrownPaperTickets.com. General Admission tickets are available for $20, while VIP tickets are available for $99 and include a cocktail reception with nominees, performers and industry insiders. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Music Drives Us foundation.
