Yesterday, Paul McCartney’s troubles were so in the way.

His ex-wife, Heather, bled him dry, they say.

And poor Paul’s heartbreak was on full display.

Oh, who’d believe he’d find love today “…

But guess what, McCartney has managed to put his painful marriage to Heather Mills behind him. He’s in love again, and the 68-year-old former Beatle and his girlfriend of four years, Nancy Shevell, are engaged to be married, People magazine reported Friday. No wedding date has been set.

McCartney publicist Stuart Bell confirmed recent media speculation of a proposal as true, but declined to give further details on when and how the former Beatle asked Shevell to marry him, saying only “we’re all thrilled for him.”

The marriage will be McCartney’s third; his first wife, Linda, died of cancer in 1998. His 2002 marriage to Mills ended in divorce in 2008.

Shevell was married for more than 20 years to attorney Bruce Blakeman, a close friend of former New York Gov. George Pataki, who appointed her to the board of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

She also is the vice president for administration of New England Motor Freight, a New Jersey-based trucking company owned by her father.

to what one college trustee claims is the “Angels in America” playwright’s anti-Israel views. Kushner, who is Jewish, is generally regarded as a strong supporter of Israel but has on recent occasion criticized the Israeli government’s policies with regard to the treatment of Palestinians. On Monday, CUNY’s Jeffrey S. Wiesenfeld spearheaded a move by the college board to shelve the degree. Wiesenfeld’s actions have drawn criticism from members of the college as well as such notables as former New York City Mayor Edward Koch.

Oprah fires her TV network’s boss

Oprah Winfrey on Friday fired Christina Norman, chief of her fledgling Oprah Winfrey Network, which has failed so far to generate the kind of viewership that many had expected. Peter Liguori, chief operating officer for Discovery Communications, which runs the channel with Winfrey, will take over the channel on an interim basis.
